Vasilis Katos

Professor of Cyber Security, Head of Bournemouth University's Computer Security and Incident Response Team

Vasilis Katos is Professor of Cybersecurity and Head of Bournemouth University's Computer Security and Incident Response Team, BU-CERT. Prof. Katos specializes in digital forensics for intellectual property (IP) crime investigations. His work focuses on applying cybercrime and cybersecurity incident response practices to online investigations of IP crime.

As a CIS expert for ENISA, Prof. Katos has made significant contributions to various initiatives. These include the 2018-19 vulnerabilities study, the study on the impact of the recent Cyber Resilience Act on Open Source Software, and the Staff Working Document on Tackling R&I foreign interference by DG Research and Innovation.

Prof. Katos also serves as an external expert for the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) on IP crime. He has played a key role in the development of a Law Enforcement guide for investigating IP infringements, contributing to the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats (EMPACT). Additionally, Prof. Katos has worked closely with the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) for over five years, contributing to capacity-building activities for members of the judiciary across a number of EU Member States.
